350PDX Benefit Concert featuring Kathleen Dean Moore and Rachelle McCabe performing a program of words and music, with an interpretation of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Variations on a Theme of Corelli.” Tickets are $8-$20 and will be available at the door and online.
In this weaving of music and words, concert pianist Rachelle McCabe plays Rachmaninoff’s “Variations on a Theme from Corelli,” with its outpouring of descending chords giving voice to both grief and hope. Writer Kathleen Dean Moore weaves words into the silences between variations, calling on people to save Earth’s astonishing and sustaining lives. Convinced of the power of music and the need for action, Moore speaks of the performance as, “art that allows us to tell the terrible truths about global warming and mass extinction in a way that enters into people’s hearts rather than breaks them.” Performances in Corvallis and Seattle were met with enthusiastic ovations.
