About the Film: NECESSITY traces the fight in Minnesota against the expansion of pipelines carrying toxic tar sands oil through North America. When official channels of protest fail or fall short, activists turn to civil disobedience and lawyers seek to make the courts more just. The film follows indigenous and non-indigenous activists and allies in their resistance to the pipelines traversing native lands and essential waterways.
